In this scene we see Benny chase after Thiago on a bike through the favelas.
The aesthetics of the slum are dirty and very run down, we feel a sense of authenticity as the place looks lived in and the characters in the background successfully represent the local people.

Based on our knowledge from the contextual aspects of the film, we know that trying to escape the City Of God will get you killed. This scene gives us a false sense of security for Thiago as some may fear that Benny is acting as the 'bigger fish' in this scene and may kill Thiago. The theme of escaping is repeated throughout the film, we continuously view characters escaping/ trying to escape a situation. You could argue that this is the reason Benny is killed, as it is from this point that he attempts to exit this lifestyle, losing faith in Lil' Ze and attempts to gain hope and a meaning for life.

Cinematography is used in an authentic way in this clip, the camera is handheld and the fast paced editing gives us a sense of verisimilitude as it is in a documentary style.
